Mubarak’s Speech and why it was a mistake

I am listening to the end of Egyptian President Mubarak’s speech and the crowd reaction after as I write this.  My ideas are flowing and there is no reason to wait to write while they are in my mind.

Several years ago I put my Political Science degree on a bookshelf. My interest in American politics is burned out. There is only so much one can care about the Electoral College and the official way congressional districts are drawn. Still, there are some political things that still draw me in.

My courses in international relations and the different theories are still very helpful. One of those lessons was on international political protests.

I have always been interested in mass protest movements. If a country’s people feel the need to risk their lives, I pay even more attention. This is what peeked my interest in Egypt. Read the rest of this entry »

R.I.P. Tim

Political life is just not the same without Tim Russert. Its so depressing know he is gone. I haven’t felt this way since the loss of David Bloom. Perhaps it is my history in Journalism in college, but I always hurt when I see these men who bring us the news die young. Read the rest of this entry »

Keith said it…not me

I rarely watch Keith. He’s a nice enough guy and does a great job when he’s covering sports, but I just don’t like a mix of humor, news, and political views. I just don’t find it ha-ha. Sorry Keith fans. When I want news, I want news. When I want politics, I want politics.

However, recently I have started to change my mind regarding my respect for this man. It started when he did the debates. I noticed he wasn’t just a sports guy who went politically ballistic when he felt like it. Friday, my roommate called me over. She likes his stuff so it was no surprise.

Earlier Friday I had told her about Hillary’s remarks regarding RFK’s assassination and Keith was going to cover it. We sat down to watch. Neither of us expected to be as moved as we were. Read the rest of this entry »
